World’s Largest Container Ship, OOCL Valencia, Sets Sail On Trial Voyage

The world’s largest container ship, the OOCL Valencia, set out on its trial run from Nantong in the Jiangsu Province of China. Since this vessel is the first to be completed in China in 2024, reaching this milestone is significant.

OOCL Valencia, a ship built by a Nantong-based business, has outstanding specifications, including the capacity to transport 24,188 twenty-foot container boxes. The vessel is a testament to the state-of-the-art shipbuilding capabilities of China, measuring an astounding 399.99 meters in total length and 61.3 meters in breadth.

The shipping company’s first attempt at building such enormous container ships was the delivery of the OOCL Spain, a forerunner of the OOCL Valencia, on March 15, 2023, in Zhejiang Province. Built using cutting-edge technologies, the OOCL Valencia highlights China’s leadership in the shipping sector and stands out as a pioneering vessel on the international scene. As it embarks on its test run, it represents a significant advancement in the country’s shipbuilding capacity and places China at the forefront of innovation in the container shipping industry.
